Been there, done that

I can remember the good old days. Yes, they really were good. I really was living the life back then, having weekly trips to the beach resorts of Hua Hin and Pattaya from Bangkok just for lunch and dinner. Traveling to all corners of the country with my family. I’ve pretty much been everywhere in Thailand already over the nine years living there. A generous family income that would put us in the upper middle class made all of it possible.
Fast forward to 2008, our family is as close as it ever was but our income is significantly diminished. In fact, we had negative income from our businesses and reported no income to the IRS for a year. The nature of our business requires constant management and care to win customers hearts and succeed, leaving no time for the family trips and long outings we enjoyed in Thailand. Three children are now going to college while dad has no money to pay for any of it. That’s why we’re taking advantage of Running Start to help reduce our costs. I’m lucky to have my tuition completely funded by federal financial aid with some cash remaining for supporting expenses.
I used to look at my classmates travels with slight envy but come to think of it, I realize that I have done my fair share of tourism for 9 years. It’s time to take a break, enjoy Seattle, and save some money. At this rate, I’ll be able to graduate with a Masters degree in engineering with absolutely zero debt. I currently have no debt, my credit score is 800+, ten thousands in the bank, and I wish to keep it that way even after I get a permanent job after graduation.
