Feeling funky

Here it comes again. It begins with sneezing, then a sore throat, followed by running nose. No thick mucus here, just clear run off. Last time that happened was in late April to early May. I cleaned our home air filter without a face mask and inhaled a bunch of nasty stuff accumulated over the months. At the time, the news of swine flu (Influenza A H1N1) began to break into the mainstream. That was a week of misery and fear that I might have the flu. My insurance coverage lapsed during that period, also. So I paid a visit to Hall Health on campus, which offers free a consulting service to students and one free visit per quarter for acute illness/injury.

After a diagnosis, I was told that I had hay fever (which fever is not a symptom of), not the flu. A big sigh of relief for me on a Friday, when I was supposed to be in Vancouver, B.C. for the ITE QUAD Conference. I recovered shortly after.

With H1N1 in the news again and flu season approaching, I have to wonder whether this relapse is the result of changing seasons and a dirty house or the flu (the former more likely). I don’t recall ever having a flu shot nor the flu.

So I’m feeling funky, physically and musically. I heard Gap Band’s You Dropped a Bomb on Me from a video on YouTube and now I’m listening to its station on Pandora. Bomb, indeed.
